(Sept. 15) - College of Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics Cathy Ingram has announced the hiring of Natalie Smith as the new head women's soccer coach and Tina Prickett as the program's new assistant coach. Smith comes to Riverdale after graduating from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif. in 2006. Prickett joins the Dolphins after serving as a physical trainer at the St. Alban Center in York, England. She is a 2006 graduate of Long Island University.
At Pomona, Smith played for two seasons and received the honor award given out by the coaching staff in 2004. That same season, her squad was the second most improved team in the country and also had one of the top-five grade point averages in the nation.
In 2004, she coached AIA soccer camps in Canada and continued her playing career in the PCSL. In 2006, she coached instructional camps for the Charlotte Eagles (USL-2) based in North Carolina.
In 2005, Smith became a student assistant at Pomona and helped the team to its first ever NCAA Tournament berth after winning the SCIAC Championship.
Smith currently is the game operations and club liaison for Sky Blue, a W-League team that will join the women's professional league starting in 2009. Smith also currently holds a NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma and a USSF E license.
Prickett joins the staff with experience in both soccer and lacrosse, as she competed in both sports while at LIU.
From 2004-05 she served as a coach at the YMCA in Prospect Park, NY. In that capacity, Prickett coached soccer, basketball, and gymnastics.
From August of 2006 until coming onto the Dolphins' staff, Prickett served as the physical trainer at the St. Alban Center and was the head lacrosse coach at Ampleforth College in York, England. As a trainer, she developed fitness programs, assisted clients in nutrition and workouts and educated clients on nutrition and other fitness components.
As the head coach, Prickett managed a three team program at Ampleforth. Her responsibilities included travel arrangements, practices schedules, conditioning, fund raising, and game scheduling.
Smith takes over for Tony Elmore, who resigned after three seasons at the Mount Saint Vincent helm. Elmore led the Dolphins to the 2005 and 2006 HVWAC Championship Games with MSV winning the 2005 title.
